Research in surgical gastroenterology at Horsens Regional Hospital is currently primarily focused on hernia related issues. The research group is headed by chief physician Hans Friis-Andersen, who is also chairman of the Danish Hernia Database in addition to being chairman at the Hernia Center.
By 2015, five projects were completed with publications. There are currently 7 ongoing projects, and 3-4 additional projects are planned for the end of the year. The Department of Surgery wishes to maintain and further develop efforts with several external partners, and research years are planned for students as well as post docs.
Clinical biochemical research at Horsens Regional Hospital is characterized by the fact that the subject itself is very wide and therefore can be part of many contexts, and most often in collaboration with other specialties. Department of Clinical Biochemistry focuses on clinical studies and advises and facilitates other departments in their research projects. The vision for 2016 is to maintain ongoing research efforts and to work on establishing a more independent place in the research community at Horsens Regional Hospital.
Horsens Regional Hospital has the Department of Lifestyle Rehabilitation in Brædstrup, where focus is on strengthening the individual's empowerment and coping mechanisms in everyday life with a lifestyle disorder or other chronic diseases. The vision for research efforts at the Department for Lifestyle Rehabilitation is to support evidence-based practice with a qualitative focus. Based on patient experiences, it is desirable to develop a feasible, appropriate, meaningful and effective intervention that contributes to public health. The Department of Lifestyle Rehabilitation has a physiotherapist with a master's degree, who is currently working on a PhD project.
