Welcome to The Department of Surgery

If you need to be hospitalised in The Surgical ward 1 or 2, we ask that you report to the secretary.

6 am to 8 am

• The patients that are having surgery or examination early in the day will be woken up.
• The day shift starts from 7 am. Morning medication is handed out.

8 am to 11 am

• Breakfast is served in the sitting room between 8 am and 8.45.
• Help with personal hygiene and making the bed is provided if necessary.
• A physiotherapist will help with training if necessary.

9 am to 3 pm

• Ward rounds.

12 pm to 12.30 pm

• Lunch is served in the sitting room and lunch medication is handed out.

12.30 pm to 14.30 pm

• Time to rest - We ask that this time is respected for the sake of your fellow patients.

3 pm

• The evening shift starts.

5 pm to 5.30 pm

• Dinner is served in the sitting room and medication is handed out.

20.30 pm

• Evening coffee/tea with bread.

11 pm

• The night shift starts.

If you have any questions, please ask the staff.

The daily ward rounds are individualised to fit the needs and wishes of each patient.

If you or your relatives would like to talk with a doctor or nurse, this can be arranged during ward rounds or by telephone.

We would like that only one relative is calling - and hereafter informs the others in the family.

If you use assistive devices e.g. a walking stick, a walker or a wheel chair, you may bring these with you.

There is space in the room to store your personal assistive devices.

Bed serving is provided as needed. Do not hesitate to supply yourself with cold or warm drinks in the hallways.

There are no specific visiting hours in the ward, but we urge to retain visiting in the hours between 1 pm to 2.30 pm and again after 10 pm, giving patients who need resting the opportunity to do so.

Due to several unfortunate incidents of theft we recommend you to avoid bringing items of value. If you bring jewellery or the like with you, you will be provided a locker by which you are responsible in case of surgery or examination.

The discharged is arranged together with you and possibly also your relatives - and if needed, we will contact the home services/district nurse. You will be informed about any possible aftercare or following check-ups before you leave the hospital.

After the discharge we will send a description of your course of treatment to your general practitioner. If you do not want this done, we ask that you inform the staff about it yourself.
