To have a surgical procedure performed will often result in pain. When the effects of the analgesics are fading out – some hours after the surgery – you will inevitably start to feel pain. The pain can more or less be relieved with painkilling tablets.

The pain will wear off during a week or so, but it will probably put limits to your activities during the first couple of days.

In general, you may do the things you can, and you may resume your usual activities and work when the pain allows it.

Also, it is important that you are taking the analgesics on a regular basis during the first couple of days.

Paracetamol of 500 mg (light analgesics)

(If you dot not receive paracetamol medication in advance)

8 am: 2 tablets

12 pm: 2 tablets

5 pm: 2 tablets

10 pm: 2 tablets

Ibuprofen of 400 mg (light analgesics)

(e.g. Ibumetin, Ibuprofen, Ipren, Burana)

NB. if you start to feel heartburn and/or a burning sensation in the stomach, you should stop using ibuprofen.

8 am: 1 tablet

12 pm: 1 tablet

5 pm: N/A

10 pm: 1 tablet

Depot tablet Morphine of 5 mg and 10 mg (strong analgesics)

(e.g. Contalgin, Malfin, Doltard)

8 am: 1 tablet of 10 mg + 1 tablet of 5 mg

12 pm: N/A

5 pm: N/A

10 pm: 1 tablet of 10 mg + 1 tablet of 5 mg

If this is not sufficient, you may additionally, when needed, take ½-1 morphine tablet of 10 mg maximum 4 times per every 24 hours during the first few days.
