The event recorder (R-test) monitors your heart rhythm continuously and starts recording in the event of abnormalities in the heart rhythm.
If you experience symptoms, please press the record button in the middle of the device. Press until you hear a click then release immediately. The event recorder beeps to indicate that the recording has started.
You can start __________ recordings throughout the monitoring period. When you have initiated this amount of recordings you will not hear the beep when you press the button in the middle. This means you cannot start further recordings manually, but nothing happens if you accidentally press the button again. The 2 smaller buttons on the device are not activated and nothing happens if you press them.
The event recorder gives a warning beep every 15 minutes if the connection is broken e.g. if an electrode has come loose or if the buttons on the back of the recorder or on the side of your chest have come off. The alarm will sound every 15 minutes until the fault is rectified. If an electrode has come loose, please re-attach or replace it. If the button has been disconnected from the electrode on your chest or on the side, please click it into place again.
The purpose is to record your heart rhythm over several days to determine whether your symptoms originate from the heart.
The event recorder is fitted in the Heart Clinic 2, A6. This takes approximately 15 minutes. After this you can go home and do your normal daily routines e.g. working, cleaning, gardening etc.
The device is scheduled to be attached for _____________ days.
If you experience any of the symptoms causing the monitoring of your heart rhythm, please log these in the diary you have been given.
After the examination
When the monitoring period is over, you are required to disconnect the electrodes and to return the device and the seizure diary to the Heart Clinic 2, A6.
You will be informed about the reult of the examination, either during a consultation with a doctor in the Heart Clinic or through your general practitioner.
More information
Before you take a shower or bath, please disconnect the device as it is not waterproof. Detach the device from the electrodes on your chest and the side of your body. While detaching the unit it is important to hold the electrodes to prevent them to come loose from your skin. When the device is detached it gives a warning signal every 15 minutes, until it is re-attached.
During your shower/bath please leave the electrodes on your skin (try to avoid getting them too wet). After your shower/bath please check that the electrodes are still firmly in place, if not they must be replaced.
It is important that a new electrode is attached precisely in the same location as the old one. It is equally important that it is attached firmly and has good contact with the skin.
