Extended lungfunction examination

• You must not smoke on the day of the examination.
• You must not have a cold or fever.
• You must take your normal medicine unless agreed otherwise with the doctor.
• You may eat and drink normally up to two hours before the examination.
• You are welcome to drink thin liquids during the two hours leading up to the examination, e.g. cordial, water, etc.

Please let us know if you are unable to attend the planned examination.

If you get a cold or similar during the 3 weeks leading up to the examination, please contact us by telephone, as it is possible the examination can be postponed.

The examination lasts about 45 minutes and is painless. The examination is conducted through various breathing tests where you wear a nose clip, while you sit in a glass cage which looks a bit like a telephone booth. A nurse will be present throughout the examination.

You will be informed of the results of the examination by a doctor during a subsequent review in the Medicine Outpatient Clinic 2, either later the same day or a few days later.
