This guide is intended as information to help you if you experience hypersensitivity symptoms after the examination.

Be aware of

You attended an MRI scan today during which contrast fluid containing gadolinium was injected into a blood vessel in your arm. The contrast fluid is called Gadovist.

Under normal circumstances the contrast is a non-hazardous medium which is expelled through the kidneys in the urine.

Before the injection you were asked about hypersensitivity in general. The assessment was that you would be able to undergo the examination without problems.

In rare cases the contrast medium may cause discomfort in the hours following the examination, most often with a rash.

This will usually disappear rapidly, but if not you must contact your own general practitioner or duty doctor and tell him/her about the contrast injection you have had.
