This guide is intended as information for you to give to your doctor. As you have diabetes and are being treated with Metformin, you must have a blood sample check 48 hours after the IV contrast injection.
Important information
You must not begin Metformin treatment until your doctor has confirmed that your blood sample is OK.
The patient attended an examination today and intravenous contrast medium was administered. Metformin treatment must not re-commence for 48 hours and then only if GFR remains unchanged. For this reason, the patient’s P-creatinine must be checked and GFR calculated.
