Pain during childbirth is caused by contractions from the uterus, but is unlike other types of pain, connected to something positive.

The pain will most often be lacated in the lower back and lower abdomen.

Woman experience birth pain differently and the need of pain relief is individual. During childbirth the body produces endorphins, which relieves some of the pain.

This means that pain relief to some extent is released naturally during the birth process, and increase throughout your birth as it proceeds.

Most women will need pain relief, and for some the birth pains become so strong that it will be necessary and beneficial to the birth process to provide medical pain relief.

A completely painless birth is not possible.

With this information we wish to provide with information of the different types of pain relief we can offer while giving birth at Horsens Regional Hospital.
